Choose SSD or RAM to add speed to your laptop.

Choose SSD or RAM to add speed to your laptop.

Hi hi hi, greetings, computer riders.

Meet again with me, and we will discuss how to speed up your laptop. Have you ever experienced irritation and anger towards your laptop because it couldn't work quickly? Or have you ever experienced waiting for your laptop to turn on for a very long time until you can make fried rice first?

A laptop that is slow or often stops is caused by several things, one of which is the performance of the SSD and RAM. So what is the function of SSD and RAM for your laptop? Are they that important for speed?

1. Get to know SSD and RAM

SSD stands for Solid State Drive, which is an innovation of a device called HDD (Hard Disk Drive). SSD has a speed 10x faster than HDD because SSD uses flash technology and there is no moving motor in it. This is different from HDD, which still uses plates like cassettes inside, and there is still a motor to rotate the disks.
RAM, which stands for Random Access Memory, is a device for storing data temporarily or when an application is running.

2. SSD and RAM functions

SSDs function to store all data, transfer data, and manage all data on your laptop. SSDs store data when the laptop is off and on. Example of using SSD:
- to copy and paste data from one storage location to another.
- Save all programs on your laptop, such as Windows, Photoshop, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Corel Draw, game data, and others.

RAM functions to store temporary data; what is meant is that when your laptop is turned on, the RAM starts working, whereas when the laptop is turned off, the RAM stops working. Example of RAM usage:

- Turn on the computer.
- When you open a program such as Word, the RAM capacity will be used to run the program.
- For example, your laptop has 4 GB of RAM, and you are running the Corel Draw program, which uses 2 GB of RAM. Then you will have 2 GB of RAM remaining.

3. Select SSD or RAM.

For your laptop's performance speed, there are several things you need to pay attention to. Like a laptop, you use it for any purpose, like editing, gaming, writing, internet browsing, or other things.

Because you already know and understand the functions of SSD and RAM, you should be able to determine which one you need. Example :

- If you want to speed up the process when turning on the computer, then you prefer SSD because Windows storage is stored on SSD.

- If you want to move data quickly, choose SSD.

If you want to run several programs simultaneously, then choose RAM.

- If you want to run heavy programs, choose RAM.

4. Conclusion

In my opinion, before you upgrade other components in your laptop, the first thing you should upgrade is the SSD. Because the role of SSD is very important and almost all data on the laptop is managed by SSD.

After you upgrade your HDD to an SSD,  you upgrade your RAM. Then your laptop will work optimally. If it's still not enough, then add a VGA card to function for editing and gaming. For laptops, there is an external VGA card, while on computers, you can add a VGA card inside.
